The Double Door Studios and Gallery started in 1988 in what was a non-functioning barn. Over the course of three consecutive summers the ground floor of the building was converted into four studios, one in each corner, with a common central area serving as storage space. The latter eventually became an exhibition space.
Since 1997 the Double Door has provided an alternative exhibition venue with a regular schedule of solo and group exhibitions from April to November each year. Exhibitions run for three weeks, with an opening reception typically held on the first Saturday of each show.	The main area of the barn has hosted music concerts, and performance art.
